Which PDA platform is best? I am mainly talking about Blackberry and Microsoft Windows Mobile here. Not Palm.?
I plan to buy a PDA-style phone soon and have narrowed my choice to between the RIM Blackberry or Microsoft’s Windows Mobile platforms. I mainly want to use my device to keep up-to-date with my calendar items and read and respond to email, but having a device that I could occasionally do other things too wouldn’t hurt. I’m also not a fan of Palm’s OS and I don’t think their platform is going to be around much longer. Thanks!
I never tried a Blackberry because there was no touch screen. I liked Palm’s interface and OS stability. I didn’t like the way palm translated some windows file types. If you want to open Microsoft Office Files then I would go with Mobile Windows. Some of the new windows PDA phones don’t have touch screens which to me makes it more difficult to do things on the PDA.
I have ended up with a Mobile Windows PDA. If you use Outlook for e-mail and calendar then you are all set. If you use Lotus Notes you’ll have to get Intellisync, which in my experience works until you update Lotus Notes to the latest version.
Outlook data is interchangeable with Palm or Windows Mobile Devices. Blackberry is supposed to be so as well, but a friend of mine has issues with his Blackberry as far as e-mail.
